Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy

FOR INDIVIDUALS AND COUPLES

PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Andra Ghinea

The time I spent with my patients in the office taught me that they can heal and change profoundly if we dig to the root of the problem, if we probe all the planes until we find the deep causes that created the wounds and the defense mechanisms that held them captive. The relationship with them has a major role in the therapeutic approach and must be built with great care, dedication and trust because it is the foundation on which we will rebuild together new psychic structures.

What would it be like to be free? Released from the captivity of the role in the script that was assigned to you in the past and in which you have always lived. Free to see yourself from new angles, to see other routes and possibilities for yourself.

PSYCHOTHERAPY

For couples and individuals

Many times, therapy is an arduous path, never linear, but rather with twists and turns, wanderings, redemptions, returns. It involves returning to long-unvisited wounds, chaos, and even emotional insecurity during the deconstruction of old patterns of psychic functioning. During this process, the patient may encounter many creative resistances to change. Thus, it takes a lot of emotional intimacy, trust, gentleness, tolerance and, at the same time, many attempts to create other soul mirrors, another safety base and to develop the capacity for relativization and self-reflexivity, new feelings and relationships with self and with the world.

The darkest time of my life was when I didn’t even know what to begin the story of my sadness with. I only knew I couldn’t find any solution for my life, not even some glimpses of joy to get me through the day. Tears refused to bring solace to my eyes, while the claw crushing my chest from dawn until bedtime was mine alone to know and feel. I remember how skeptical I was when I decided to begin therapy because hopelessness had already become my companion for life. I remember just as vividly the deep cry that burst out of me during that first therapy session in which I struggled to voice my secrets, my feelings of guilt, helplessness and loneliness.

That was the beginning of an immensely complicated and painful path along which I faced moments of infinite sadness, peaking with the newly-found need to confront the traumas feeding these feelings and the people responsible for them. It was the moment of my rebirth. Henceforth I learned to love myself, to cherish myself and to realize the amount of effort I was making to win or keep other people’s love, appreciation or friendship. However, I have come to learn during therapy that this effort is useless in any well-balanced relationship and that only these relationships are worth nurturing.

To me therapy has become a priceless resource. A handbag full of ailments for the spirit, but also a compass for discovering and understanding both one’s own, but also other people’s feelings. In therapy I learned to discern between inner tensions and tensions stemming from outside and to shape my life by constructively using and understanding my feelings. Along this arduous path I had a trusted partner to hold my hand in Andra to whom I am deeply grateful for all the good and the light that I can now see thanks to the efforts she put in by my side.

With Andra’s help, I was able to unveil what had happened to me during childhood. I no longer
lie to myself that it was something insignificant that had no impact on me. I no longer hide behind
everything I have achieved despite what happened to me.

I am now 31 years old; I am too old for therapy and it’s too late to dig up the dead, or at least this
is what my mom keeps telling me. But his shout – even though I know that it is no longer pointed at
me and that that person can no longer touch me – still turns me into the helpless and captive child that

I was when he used to beat me. I still avoid subjects that I know could trigger him. I still get the
impression that all the good things in my life are on the verge of collapsing. I still can’t imagine why
someone would want to share their life with me. I am still shaken in awe by anything I feel I inherited
from him.

So there is still work to be done, I guess. I just want to sit him at the table and inventory all the ways
in which he hurt me. I don’t care if he understands, if he asks for forgiveness – he’s already
reconfigured his memories and cemented his victim status in our family story – but I just want to
gather enough strength to be able to talk to him about these things without my voice failing or me
getting sick.

I’d like to hear about people like Andra more often. This way, the world would be more deeply
anchored in the present, kinder and all in all a better place. Many people invest in things, but not in
themselves. Having a place to go to and dive to the deepest reaches of the soul next to a person that
helps you grow your wings is the most cherished of treasures. And it’s not just any person, but a
caring, discreet, dedicated and kind person that makes even the most painful of moments become
simpler.

I love exploring the world, but for me this journey has been the most rewarding, even if it
didn’t feel like that all throughout. It wasn’t always easy, but I always felt safe. I was able to grow and
discover a new person within myself. A person that I felt Andra had seen inside me from the very
beginning and to whom she spoke until this new person broke through to the surface. Together with
her, I was able to look at past pains with kindness and compassion.

I’ve been in therapy with Andra since 2019 and from the very beginning I felt she was the kind
of therapist that truly makes the effort to gain an in-depth understanding of my problems and to exert
proper empathy. I always felt she listened to and validated my experiences and emotions, but she also
challenged some of my preconceptions, encouraging me to explore their root cause.

I would often times go to therapy sessions with problems with no apparent solution, but Andra
always knew how to handle them one by one, how to provide them with a structure and she was able
to see the steps needed to reach a solution. With her calm and patient nature, Andra creates a relaxed
atmosphere in her therapy sessions, a safe space where I can freely express my thoughts without
feeling judged. The fact that she delves into the past a lot, scrutinizing childhood events, helps me
realize where certain fears come from and why I still struggle with them after so long.

Doing therapy with Andra was like a journey within myself, towards my inner child. Andra
accompanied me with genuine solicitude along this path, she guided me, showed me the way to my
inner resources that I was then able to strengthen and even helped me discover new ones; we worked
together to build my self-confidence, to the point that I became able to face, accept and heal my
emotional wounds.

Throughout this journey, Andra served as my point of reference, but remained impartial
nonetheless, thus teaching me to look after my own wishes and choices.

Andra, thank you! You are the reason why today I am an authentic self with emotionally healthy
values.
